Google's New Algorithm Dance Featured
Thats right. If you haven't already experienced it google has released it's new freshness algorithm.
Google has made changes to its search engine algorithm, aiming to make its results more relevant and recent. Amit Singhal, a Google fellow, said on his blog that given the incredibly fast pace at which information moves in today’s world, the most recent information can be from the last week, day or even minute.
Depending on the search terms, the algorithm needs to be able to figure out if a result from a week ago about a TV show is recent, or if results form a week ago about some important event are too old.
The changes are built on the Caffeine web indexing system that Google announced last year. Caffeine allows users to find newer, more relevant information by making it so that recently published posts surface much faster in search. When users search Google, they aren’t searching for live web, they’re searching Google’s index on the web. Before Caffeine, the index was refreshed much more slowly, which meant that it could take longer to find relevant information that has been published very recently.
There are plenty of cases where results that are a few years old might still be useful for you. (fast tomato sauce recipe). On the other hand, when you search for the number one track in the US top 20, a result that is a week old might be too old.
Different searches have different freshness needs. This algorithmic improvement is designed to better understand how to differentiate between these kinds of searches and the level of freshness you need, and make sure you get the most up to the minute answers.
This new search algorithm is likely to affect the traffic of age old websites, which were topping on ‘main keywords’ just because they were old and were published long time ago. This new and fresh algorithm will hopefully be giving new publishers a fair chance to get to the top of Google organic search results.
